A hotel with an environmental conscience

Sandymount Hotel has a lot to be proud of. The 4-star property started from humble beginnings; originally built as homes for Dublin’s aristocracy in 1866 the property was opened as a hotel in 1955 with just four bedrooms. Fast-forward to now and the hotel features an impressive 187 modern guest rooms. It is also the largest family-run hotel in Dublin, proudly owned and run by father and son, John and Gerard Loughran.

Only a stone’s throw away from the world-class international Aviva Stadium, Sandymount Hotel is conveniently located for both sporting events and conferences. Consequently, much of their demographic is business corporate or leisure guests with an appetite for sport. It’s appropriate then that the Hotel has a close affiliation with the Rugby Football Union (IRFU), and the U19’s/U20’s and the 7’s Rugby Club. They’re proud sponsors of the Irish IRFU Charitable Trust – which cares for seriously injured rugby players, and the hotel even hosts a conference every April which attracts notable Irish Rugby personalities. In addition, they are proud corporate partners of Make-A-Wish Ireland.

Sandymount’s rich history is only one of its many outstanding features. The hotel also holds the accolade of being ‘Europe’s Leading Green Hotel’. Awarded by the prestigious World Travel Awards, the hotel beat off stiff competition and set an international standard for other hotels. Having won in both 2017 and 2018, they hope to retain their title in 2019, having recently been nominated for the third consecutive year!

Avvio has been working alongside this environmentally conscious hotel since 2015 – providing them with the latest in hotel booking technology, as well as strategic revenue management and distribution advice. Working alongside Green Hospitality Ireland to meticulously monitor their waste management and recycling, Sandymount Hotel is committed to creating a cleaner environment for future generations.

While conscientiously tending to their surroundings, Sandymount Hotel’s bookings have blossomed and in 2018 the hotel’s direct bookings increased by 20% year-on-year and their direct revenue was up by an astonishing 27%. tweet

Sandymount have seen consistent growth in their direct booking revenue as customers of Avvio’s booking engine since April 2015. As a result of their increased profitability on their direct booking channel, they’ve been able to have a more balanced distribution through OTA channels.

Future Plans

The hotel may hold an impressive awards cabinet, but they won’t be slowing down any time soon. With impending refurbishment works in the pipeline and a potential trio of awards in their grasp, 2019 promises to be an exciting year for the hotel.
